Who is Behind Catacomb Matcha?

Okay, take a trip with me. It’s 2016. Pokémon Go is everywhere. Beyoncé releases Lemonade. Simone Biles rocks the Rio Olympics. I’m working at a vegan restaurant in Denver. I’m a barista who has to learn how to make this frothy green latte. A few sips later and I’m hooked.

Fast forward a few years and my husband, Christopher, finally gives the stuff a try. Guess what. He’s obsessed. So obsessed, in fact, that he decides to write out an entire business plan and create an e-commerce company. Who even does that? A Capricorn, that’s who.

Hi, I’m Gilbert. I’m the always-in-their-head, always sleepy, perfectionist that plays too many videos games. Christopher is the mile-a-minute thinker with an obsession for Britney Spears that has a hard time relaxing. We live with our 60lb, forever-puppy, Hylia (yes, she’s named from Zelda. Thank you, I know it’s cute), and our melodramatic, mouthy cat, Bailey.

We started Catacomb as a way to spread something we loved – matcha. It’s happy. It’s healthy. It’s hip. But it’s grown into more than that for us. Catacomb has become something bigger. Catacomb is the hot pop songs of the 90s, the sassy romcoms of the 2000s, and all the pop divas along the way. Catacomb is how we want to feel – energized and powerful.

Catacomb isn’t just a drink with health benefits and jitter-free caffeine for anxious go-getters. Catacomb is confidence and a mindset.

Catacomb is Elle Woods telling Chutney the first cardinal rule of perm maintenance is that you’re forbidden to wet your hair for at least 24 hours after getting a perm at the risk of deactivating the ammonium thioglycolate. But she should know that.

Catacomb is Rachel Chu telling her crazy, rich boyfriend’s mother, Eleanor Young, that she’s not leaving because she’s scared or because she doesn’t think she’s enough. Because maybe for the first time in her life, she knows she is enough.

Catacomb is the first kiss that David and Patrick share in the car in front of the Rosebud Motel.

To us, Catacomb is an expression to live our lives in this moment. Our matcha is here to help us feel alive and energized. We may be just recycled stardust and borrowed energy, but I’ll be damned if I don’t make this life a good one.
